After texting it to my son, because I never miss an opportunity, I began to think about chivalry and how much better the culture would be if we valued it, taught it to our kids, lived by it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a surprisingly refreshing opinion column in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/roomfordebate\/2013\/07\/30\/can-chivalry-be-brought-back-to-life\/chivalry-is-a-virtue-we-should-all-aspire-to\">New York Times<\/a> that brings about some great points and questions as to why have we strayed so far from something that previous cultures valued so much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It begins by remembering some disgraceful vulgar behavior in 2010 by members of Yale&#8217;s Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity toward some of the ivy league women there, but assures us that chivalry is not dead, just on &#8220;life support.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One could only hope but in present day 2019 I wonder, especially since legislatures all over the country are devaluing women and their contribution to heterosexual relationships\/marriage\/families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the NYT article cites scientific studies that proclaim &#8220;greater life satisfaction among men and women&#8221; where chivalry is present you&#8217;ve got to wonder why there is such a <a href=\"http:\/\/americanfamilyalliance.net\/index.php\/2019\/02\/20\/missouri-republicans-neely-morris-work-really-hard-to-devalue-family-and-women-and-increase-social-program-participation\/\">subversive legislative attempt to attack<\/a> diminish women. Have we really evolved as a culture, or have we peaked and are in a steady slide into debauchery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<strong>An initiative called the&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enlightenedwomen.org\/events\/gents-showcase\/\"><strong>Gentlemen\u2019s Showcase<\/strong><\/a><strong>, led by college women on campuses across the country for the past few years, rewards young men for helping out others in need. And perhaps most important,&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/homepage.psy.utexas.edu\/homepage\/group\/busslab\/pdffiles\/SexDifferencesinHuman.PDF\"><strong>a major study<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;of more than 10,000 people from around the world \u2014 one of the largest studies of its kind \u2014 found that the No. 1 attribute that both young men and women seek in a mate is not money or beauty or intelligence, but kindness, which lies at the heart of the chivalrous act.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is one thing on which I agree with the author of this opinion piece is, if we want men to act more like chivalrous men, women have to start giving them a reason to do so. There is no doubt the generational conditioning that a liberated sex life of women was ever a good thing has contributed to women losing the respect of men.
